The History of Equal Housing in the Northern Suburbs

The History of Equal Housing in the Northern Suburbs

A traveling educational exhibit captures the compelling force of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s prophetic pronouncements about fair housing during the Civil Rights movement, the struggles of communities like Skokie to confront discriminatory housing practices, and north suburban communities' efforts to create open and welcoming neighborhoods.

The exhibit, created by Interfaith Housing Center of the Northern Suburbs and Shorefront, Inc., an Evanston-based archive of African-American history of the area, includes historical timelines, new stories, photos, quotes, and historical references. Book lists and articles on the topic of fair housing will be available for viewers to take.
