Big time professional radio as you may remember it
In the 1930s and '40s, Lux Flakes--"safe for your delicate hose and undies"--sold in immense quantities, thanks to its sponsorship, on CBS, of the Lux Radio Theatre, one of the longest running and most listened to programs in the history of broadcasting. Of the more than one thousand movies adapted for the one hour program, a comedic standout was "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House", a tale exploring the agonies and ecstacies of dealing with the people and events that go into the American dream of having a home built from scratch.
Come join the AFTRA/SAG Radio Players--a group of seasoned professional voice actors as they reproduce the original script--just as it was done 'way back then-- with sound effects and music--and absolutely no retakes. You'll love the venue too--the second-floor Claudia Cassidy Theater in the Chicago Cultural Center (on Michigan Avenue with entrances on Randolph and Washington).
The performance is on Wednesday, February 7, 2007. Admission is free, but seating is on a first come, first seated basis. Doors open at 6:30pm.
AFTRA=American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
SAG=Screen Actors Guild.
