New practitioners of the English language are invited to two "Dine & Dialogue" events being sponsored by the Niles Township Schools' English Language Learner (ELL) Parent Center. 

 

The ELL Center aims to be a model in welcoming families who are newcomers to the U.S. and is supported eight of the 10 Niles Township school districts. One of its primary goals is to help newly arrived parents figure out the American public school system and taken an active role in their children's education. 

 

Parents are encouraged to come practice their English and meet others who are learning the language of their adopted country. Free food will be served and children are welcome! Come make new friends and practice conversational English.

ELL Parent Information Workshop

The Ell Center Parent Center is holding a Parent Information Workshop Oct. 28th, from 7 to 8pm. at 9440 N. Kenton Avenue, Skokie, IL.

 

Parents will be able to:

* Learn how to use Pinnacle computer tracking system to monitor a child's grades. 

* Ask questions about Parent-Teacher Conferences and find out what they are and why participation is important.

* Get ready for a tour of their child's high school which takes place Freshman Night, Thursday, Nov. 6th.

* Meet other ELL parents.

Helping Familes Understand Eating Disorders

Many questions arise when a family member has an eating disorder. This 6-week support & educational group will help family members identify signs and symptoms, understand the impact on family functioning, explore the family’s role, and learn recovery options. Join us at JCFS in Skokie, Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m., 11/11-12/16. $90 per family (adjustable).
