Niles Township General Counsel Van A. Schwab will talk on navigating "Cook County's divorce highway," Thursday, Nov. 20th, at 7pm.

 

Schwab will review the nuances of the Illinois Dissolution of Marriage Act and how the law is applied in Cook County. The talk will cover "maintenance" previously known as alimony, child support, child custody, property distribution, attorney's fees and the need for experienced counsel. The talk is part of Niles Township's  lecture series on government.

Reflections is part of a continuing series of symposia sponsored jointly by the Second Municipal District Family Violence Coordinating Council of the Circuit Court of Cook County and Oakton Community College's Alliance for Lifelong Learning for the benefit of the communities they serve. Upon completion, participants will be familar with legal and procedural issues in domestic violence cases, the challenges facing battered mothers, and how the court determines appropriate resources for batterers and victims.
